It was a busy night for rock'n'roll: first to the Melkweg for The Quotes and Beatsteaks, then to Club Hell in the Paradiso for Lo-Lite and Sack-o'-Woes.
Standing in line outside the Melkweg we already noticed the great number of germans around us. I don't know what changed, but the last few concerts at the Melkweg we had to wait outside way too long. Whatever they changed in their door policy, I hope they change it back.
The Quotes
Luckily we still were (just) in time to see The Quotes. They sounded tighter then the last time I saw them, adding a guitar player, and letting Marcel Haug concentrate on the singing was a good choice. The middle of the show dragged a bit, too much slower songs in a row.
After they asked how many german fans had followed the Beatsteaks it was obvious: we were outnumbered!
Beatsteaks
The Beatsteaks started by anouncing they would play for three hours to make up for the two times the gig was postponed. We had really enjoyed their performance at Rock am Ring last summer, so that sounded like a good deal.
Beatsteaks
They played a great set. Some covers, all their 'hits'. Ok, it didn't last three hours, but three encores is still pretty good. Besides, we had to go to the next venue in time...
In the basement of the Paradiso, the local garage rockers had assembled for the dirty garage rock of Club Hell.
Lo-Lite
While the DJs from De Diepte played their most obscure garage rock, surf and rock'n'roll records, Lo-Lite, another 2-men line-up as is almost a standard in the blues/garage rock scene nowadays, prepared for their show.
They played a set of dirty, blues influenced garage rock. Not really tight, it didn't really do much for me. Maybe the bad sound of the Paradiso basement played a part in it, as the next band didn't sound as good as I've heard them before.
Sack-o'-Woes
Long time readers of this blog know I really like the Sack-o'-Woes. Their show was good, fast tight garage punk played at breakneck speed. One thing though: almost inaudible vocals. Halfway the show it got better, and the crowd seemed to really dig their sound. It wouldn't surprise me to see them at next year's Sleazefest.

I can still see Niels falling down and being dragged away for some floor sweeping (so there weren't any vocals in that song anyway). See you at sleazefest!

It certainly was an interesting crowd..
