Everyone knows great music was made in the 60s. American rock'n'roll and rhythm and blues influenced British beat music which in turn inspired American garage rock bands like the Sonics and The Kingsmen. If you should believe your parents, music made this century pales in comparison to music then.
Well they're wrong! The following bands could all come straight from the 60s: some sound like the early beat bands, others more like the late 60s psychedelic bands.
As if disco never happened...
The Black Lips
Black Lips
The Black Lips are known for their crazy live shows, but don't ignore their recordings. Active since 2000, these self described flower punks just delivered their 5th studio album 'Good Bad Not Evil'. The album sounds like it could have been released 40 years ago.
Raw garage rock, with some blues and country thrown in for good measure.

The Chesterfield Kings
Just to late to be an actual 60s band, the Chesterfield Kings were founded in 1979, which makes them the oldest band in this list. They started out as one of the first garage rock revival bands. After almost 30 years they still rock, and they still sound like a band from the past.
Great Stones-influenced psychedelic garage rock.

The Urges
While the American Chesterfield Kings sound as if they were part of the British Invasion, the Irish Urges immediately bring bands like the Sonics and the Standells to mind.
Around since 2004, these kids play loud & primitive garage rock.

The Madd
While the Mersey Beat held The British Isles in its grip, the Netherlands was the domain of the Nederbeat. Bands like the Outsiders, Q65, The Golden Earrings and ZZ & De Maskers put their own spin on the British beat and the American garage rock.
Led by Dave von Raven, The Madd bring back those days by delivering 'Ongeneeslijk Beat' (Incurable Beat), the best Nederbeat album in 30 years.
