My first post with some real content is a repost from Last.fm, one of my favorite sites. It collects data about which music you listen and gives you recommendations based on your listening habits.
This post contains my Top 10 bands from my Last.fm profile.
Another year is (almost) over, time for some lists! I'll take a look at the top 10 bands of my Overall Top Artists list.
1. Zeke (348 listens)
At the number one spots Zeke, definitely one of my favorite bands, but mostly at the top spot because the amount of songs I have from them, and the length of those songs. With an average song length of 1:30 minutes you can listen to a whole lot of Zeke in a short time. :)
2. The Hellacopters (328 listens)
One of Sweden's finest, the Hellacopters never bore me. Rock 'n roll might be dead, but the Hellacopters keep it alive!
3. Turbonegro (323 listens)
When I hear that death punk sound! Although the newest album has some songs that are just too long, Turbonegro still has it.
4. Danko Jones (282 listens)
Live Danko is one of the best, but his albums, especially 'We Sweat Blood', are good listens too. Go see him live if you can!
5. Supersuckers (258 listens)
Another one of my favorites, this rock how I like it, dirty, sleazy, with just the right amounts of punk & hard rock with just a sniff of country.
6. Guns N' Roses (232 listens)
If you had told me 10 years ago it would listen to these guys voluntarily, I would have laughed in your face. Sadly not much left of 'm, but who could blame guys for quitting on a nutcase as Axl?
Don't wait up for Chinese democracy, still great music though.
7. Gluecifer (221 listens)
Another one of Scandinavia's greatest... What is it with these Northern countries, that makes bands rock so hard? Another band to go see live, they put on a hell of a show!
8. None More Black (212 listens)
The first non-hard rock band in my top list, this punk band just has it. The songs are hard, fast and raw, but still great pop songs without sounding like something your mom would like.
9. The Rolling Stones 198 listens)
A classic band, of which I mostly listen to the harder songs of the albums from the end of the 60s and begin of the 70s. Obviously 'Gimme Shelter' is one of my favorite songs of all time.
10. Sparta 185 listens)
The better half of At the Drive-In if you ask me, while the Mars Volta just doesn't do it for me, Sparta makes some great music. Great catchy pop songs, while still writing out of the box songs with weird rhythms and structures. Post hardcore without losing themselves in endless jamming.
I must admit their high position is also thanks to the fact I listen to them a lot of work: this band isn't as loud as most of the bands I listen too, my co-workers rather hear Sparta then Guns 'n Roses. :)
It wouldn't surprise me if the Top 10 for 2006 won't be much different, but my musical moods can swing from time to time, so while it's mostly hard rock/punk at the moment, the list could contain some more emo/metal/hardcore next year. :)
